Once war was declared the Pankhursts called off all militant action and Emmeline_Pankhurst_Arrested_1907-1914devoted their considerable energies to supporting King and Empire. But resentment fuelled by the frustrations of the Votes For Women campaign led many Suffragettes to see the conflict as a chance to get their own back on their tormentors, MEN.
