At 9.40am on the 11th November 1920 a gun carriage carrying the coffin of an unknown British soldier was conveyed from Victoria Station to Westminster Abbey. Join our walking tour that follows the same route of that last journey of one of the 300,000 WW1 British soldiers who have no known grave. You move past the great memorials of Hyde Park Corner, Green Park, travel up the Mall from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards and the Cenotaph (unveiled at 11.00am that very day) and finish at Westminster Abbey where the body was welcomed by a guard of honour of Victoria Cross holders and received the homage of the Empire. In the week that followed over a million visitors filed past the grave. It is now one of the most visited last resting places in the world.
