War Art of Stanley Spencer at St Paul’s Cathedral

The oil painting Poppies, by Stanley Spencer, has gone on display in the north transept of St Paul’s cathedral in London. It will be on loan to the cathedral from Newark Council until 18th November 2016. The work is  part of  First World War Commemorations, and is specifically to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme  (1st July  to 18th November 1916) during which over one million British, French, Commonwealth and German soldiers were wounded or killed. The loan costs and display case have been funded by a generous donor.
